Philip Young
Philip Young is the co-founder and CEO of Garfield AI, the first law firm anywhere in the world to be authorized and regulated (by the Solicitors Regulation Authority) to provide legal services via Artificial Intelligence.
Garfield is an innovative, web-based, AI-powered software application that assists businesses in recovering debts of up to £10,000 through the small claims Court process in England & Wales easily, quickly, and affordably. The platform has already achieved several world firsts: it is the first regulated AI tool to commence Court proceedings and obtain Court judgments. Recently, it made global legal news by making history as it prepared and won a trial in an English court (at the Wandsworth County Court). Garfield's AI autonomously drafted all required documents, successfully leading the court to award the claimant £7,000 in damages.
Prior to founding Garfield AI in 2023 alongside physicist Daniel Long, Philip had a long and distinguished career as a solicitor and solicitor advocate. He spent eight years at Baker & McKenzie in London and Hong Kong, specializing in complex, high-value international litigation and arbitration. In 2009, he co-founded the boutique commercial dispute resolution law firm Cooke, Young & Keidan LLP in London, retiring from practice in 2022. Additionally, he sits on the advisory committee of Winward Litigation Finance.
Philip Young will present at the conference the ultimate case study of applied AI. He will provide a analysis of how Garfield AI achieved the world's first AI-powered court victory, proving in practice how technology transitions from theoretical hype to delivering tangible, measurable business impact—reshaping even traditionally conservative sectors like the legal industry.
