Alexandra Asimaki

Former (Captain) Greek Woman National Team Player

Alexandra Asimaki is one of the most accomplished Greek water polo players of her generation, with an outstanding international career representing the Greek National Team and leading European clubs.

A World Champion with Greece at the 2011 FINA World Championships in Shanghai, Asimaki was recognized that same year as both FINA World Water Polo Player of the Year and LEN European Water Polo Player of the Year — a rare distinction that reflects her impact at the highest level of the sport.

Playing primarily as a centre forward, she combined physical strength, tactical intelligence, technical excellence and leadership to become a decisive presence in European water polo.

She represented some of the leading clubs in European women’s water polo, including Vouliagmeni Nautical Club, Olympiacos and Alcorcón (Spain)

With Vouliagmeni, she achieved major European success, winning two European Championships, three European Super Cups and five Greek Championships.

From 2014 to 2020, she played for Olympiacos, contributing to one of the most successful periods in the club’s women’s water polo history and winning the European Championship and Greek Championship in 2015
